Lake Shasta and Lassen Park
September 2-5, 2005

After a few hours drive on Friday, we arrived at Shasta dam

After the tent was up on the lake shore, we fired up the grill

Then enjoyed the result, and went for a swim

We slept in late on Saturday morning

Took a short walk to the lake

And followed it with breakfast

We stopped at a classic car show in Mount Shasta City

Took a picture of Christof's favorite car

And another shot at a really unique one

We drove as close to Mt Shasta as possible with car and
had lunch

Then decided to hike up the small hill to the left

Getting closer

The start of the steep part

A snack break on the cliffs

At the top of the first climb

Yep, it was very steep

Just don't look down

I was scared to go further up, so I waited for Christof
to explore some more. Then we headed down

This usually peaceful man has a strong desire to knock down dead trees.
But this tree didn't yield

A late afternoon swim in the nearby Lake Siskiyou

The camping ground at the lake was full with loud people and
noisy speedboats, so we drove to Lassen Park for the third night

Lunch in the quiet forest

The meadow at King's creek

At the start of the hike to Lassen Peak at 2594m

A perfect day

After an hour and a half we were almost at the top

A patch of the glacier on the way

Volcanic rocks below the snow

Reaching the top at 3187m

We made it

Pine forests and lakes all around

I got dizzy just looking at these kids

And man

A happy team

On the way down

Nearby ridges

Luckily the trail wasn't straight up

Looking up to pine trees from our tent

We were lucky to find a spot at the Summit Lake campground

Planning the last day while warming up food

Sunday night with camp fire

There is something very soothing about watching the fire

Breakfast on Monday

The start of a short day hike

The scenery reminded us both of the places we grew up in

Reaching our destination, Echo Lake

Will you go in?

Of course!

Then I must follow

Arriving back to our campground

Sulphur Works area

The inside of the region is huffing and puffing

Mudbaths

A last look at the mountains, then time to go home
