Lake Tahoe
July 15-16, 2006

It was getting too hot at home, so we headed to the Sierras

It didn't take too long to reach the first patch of snow

Queen of the hill

Sandals on snow

Round Top peak in the back at 10380 ft

Looking back down the trail

Round Top lake

Opportunity for a slide

Continuing up

Wild flowers

Drying our feet after a shortcut in the snow

Lake Winnemucca

After breakfast at the Lake Tahoe shore on Sunday

Ready for a relaxing day

Change of plans: let's climb Mt Tallac in 90 degrees

Slowly ascending from Fallen Leaf lake

Spotting Lake Tahoe

Taking numerous breaks

It's really hot and steep

The reward is a refreshing dip in Cathedral lake

Imola couldn't resist it either

Leaving the lake behind

Going up, up and up

The scenery gets better with every step

Switchbacks and rocks dominate the trail

We are not quite there yet

Turns out our peak is much further than we thought

The beautiful scenery keeps us going

Getting closer to the top

Almost there

Yes! We made it. Mt Tallac at 9735 ft
The view was worth all the 3400+ feet in elevation gain

Not to mention the free beer at the top, courtesy of Mt Tallac brewery

Nothing better than an ice-cold beer

Mountain dwellers

Good teamwork, especially for an easy-going day

The Tahoe marina

High level view of the Sierras

Heading back down

One last look at the top

It's all downhill from here

Sliding down is faster

Serene meadow

Evening sun at the swim-break lake

We made it back just before sunset and closed the weekend with a swim in Fallen Leaf lake
